Charity football tournament ends in shoot
out!
On Friday 28 th July 2006, Insurance Broker’s James
Hallam staged their first ever Charity 5-a-side Football Tournament @
The Power League City ground in London.
The event was designed to bring together some of the UK’s leading Insurers
to raise much needed funds for one of the UK’s worthiest charities, Little
Havens Children’s Hospice. Great fun was had by all and as you
would expect there was a little competitiveness too, which all added to the entertainment!
It was a gloriously hot day and the turn out was brilliant, with teams competing
from hosts James Hallam, plus Norwich Union, Stuart Alexander, NIG, Allianz Cornhill,
Royal & SunAlliance, Primary Group, Novae, Hiscox, Chubb and BSU.
The area was like a big garden party with friends and colleagues from all
the teams cheering their boys on. The competition itself was very interesting
as results didn’t always go according to the form book, especially with
Norwich Union bowing out in the opening group stages!
After two tight group stages, four very intense quarter finals and two superb
semi finals, the scene was set – the final of the James Hallam Charity
Football Tournament would be contested by two of the insurance worlds closest
rivals (on the pitch!), Stuart Alexander and Chubb.
After a brilliant game which ended 1-1 after normal time, the only way to
settle an English Football match would of course be with the dreaded penalty
shootout. After a nail biting finale Stuart Alexander ran away
eventual winners after Chubb failed with their final spot kick.
After the tournament was finished everyone enjoyed the tasty BBQ that was
on site and then headed for the bar where the two finalists were presented with
their medals and Stuart Alexander lifted the coveted James Hallam Trophy!
All in all the event was a great success and the funds raised for Little
Havens on the night topped £1,500, so a massive thank
you to everyone that took part and came along to support this event, keep your
eyes and ears open for the second JHL Charity Tournament in summer 2007.
